My Take on Coral

This week I am highlighting coral cropped pants from one of my newer favorite stores, Madewell, which I was first introduced to when I moved to Washington, DC. I love these pants and tend to want to wear them all the time to replace wearing jeans. If you have been following the Copious Style blog, you have probably gathered that I really enjoy color. I am one who believes you should have everything in every color.... buying in moderation of course. Honestly, having a variety of colors does allow you to make expanding your wardrobe and creating new outfits a lot easier. I feel that these cropped pants do that for me.

In the outfit above – the casual chic look, I have on a quarter length coral striped shirt, a navy cardigan, with a blazer on top. This blazer is actually a little too big, but I got this for such a great price at The Limited a few years ago, so I think it was worth it. The funky shoes that I have on are from my favorite shoe brand…you probably have guessed it…Nine West. I found these at an outlet store in Harlem and had to snag them! See a close-up below. I seriously can almost always find a great pair of shoes in their clearance stores and I wear a size 10!

In the more casual outfit below, I have on the most comfortable sweater that I probably have ever bought and a scarf from Eastern Market in Washington, DC. I think that I like collecting scarves, they are so flexible. I use my scarves in multiple ways, as a shawl on some days and as a head wrap or head band on other days. They are also easy to find – accessory stores, flea markets, kiosk in the mall, and street vendors sell them and typically for a low price. I decided to wear flat boots to give my feet a break, but this outfit would have looked great with some booties with a heel as well.

I'm originally from South Carolina, and moved to NYC by way of DC. I'm not the stereotypical southerner, but not quite the city girl either. I have always had a passion for fashion, and I started sketching designs when I was in high school. It is ironic to me that many of the designs that I was sketching in the late 90's and early 2000's eventually became popular items that you and I both probably had in our closets. While the dream of my line being strutted down the runway at New York Fashion Week works itself out, I thought that I would focus on another area of fashion that I enjoy - styling! I love being creative with the clothes that I have in my closet, the shoes that I have stacked in a book case, and the accessories that I have stashed in various places in my room. Styling is oh so fun, it lets me be a chameleon in a sense, and it allows me to show a bit of my personality!
